How Many Miles Can 2016 Chevy Malibu Drive Before Needing to Fill Up Again

Hello all.

I'grand turning to this forum because a this point i've exhausted practically all avenues. Back in tardily march 2020, I purchased a used 2017 Chevy Malibu ane.5 LT with 33,600 miles on it.From the day I brought information technology habitation I noticed that my gas guess goes downwardly EXTREMELY fast, like every bit in after filling up at the gas station, the needle moves off of "F" within simply several miles. The gas tank is rated at 13 gallons but yet when I fill it upward from empty, I accept never been able to fit more than than x gallons into the affair before the pump cuts off. Ive filled information technology past the cutoff point to add together an extra 2-3 gallons manually and information technology has at one point caused the gas gauge to read full for 80+ miles before finally moving off of "F" only even afterward it moves off of "F" it moves downwards just as fast as it would if I never filled information technology by the cut off in the first place. Ive filled it to total (without over filling) and rode information technology from full to empty in just 250 miles. The well-nigh I've ever gotten out of a tank (With overfilling) was 300 miles, only that was really Actually pushing it to nearly getting stranded.

I've brought my Malibu to a Chevy Dealership 3 times inside the get-go calendar month of purchasing the vehicle. The kickoff matter they tried was a TCM update that did not work.

Second thing they tried was taking my vehicle for a week so ane of their employees could use information technology every bit their car and see for themselves how fast the gas gauge goes down (they told me they didnt notice information technology going down fast but I know they were simply BS'ing me)

Third and last time I brought it down earlier my dealership cut me off, they replaced the Fuel Level Sensor. That didn't piece of work either. A few days after they replaced the fuel level sensor, I chosen them back to tell them the trouble was still not fixed. They said they were going to contact GM over again and become back to me. A week later they got back to me and said that there is zero more that they tin do and that "250 miles on a total tank is operating under normal conditions" and "You'll never be able to get the full 13 gallons into the tank" but The only option they gave me was to put a larger 15.five gallon gas tank on the machine from the 2.0 Malibu model, but I would have had to pay $1500 for that out of pocket and they heavily advised against doing then because GM advised confronting it likewise, and it doesnt seem worth information technology to spend $1500 to get an extra 75-100 miles of range.

All in all, the fuel gauge has 8 lines, each indicating 1/8th of a tank. It seems that every 23-27 miles, information technology goes down one/8th of a tank, indicating that each line pretty much represents ane gallon, which isnt correct. fuel economy government website rating on my car rates the car at 390+ miles per total tank, which I am non even close to getting. My fuel range sensor on my car shows 341 on fill, but every mile I drive, the mileage goes down 2-iii miles. So pretty much if I had 340 miles of fuel range remaining, if I drove 10 bodily miles, the fuel range will show 310-315 miles left. I've washed fuel mileage tests myself and subsequently getting what I assume is close to a full 13 gallons in the car, I average about 23-27 miles per gallon, which isnt far off from the computer.

THE Simply Time that the gas guess doesn't go downwards fast is when I'm purely driving on the highway. I can go close to 320-350 miles on a full tank if I'm exclusively driving highway, but the second I get off the high way and do city driving, forget it. Gas goes down extremely fast.

Here are some pictures of my fuel range I've gotten, and afterward filling up the motorcar with 2 gallons of gas from pretty much empty, it went to slightly over `1/4 tank.

But wondering if anyone has anything to say almost this matter.

TL;DR: Auto merely gets 250-270 miles on full tank when its supposed to be rated for 390+ From empty, I can only clasp about 10 gallons in there, then the needle moves off full within just several miles. Overfilling the tank to go an extra 2-3 gallons into it keeps the needle at full for 50-80 miles. Car dealership replaced Fuel level sensor so refused to try anything else. Gas judge just seems to get down quickly while doing city driving though because it doesnt go down fast when I'm merely driving on the highway.

r/Cartalk - 2017 Chevy Malibu only gets 250-270 miles per full tank and gas goes down VERY fast
